Women of childbearing age

The national pregnancy in diabetes audit (NPID) 2021-2022 highlighted that there are now more pregnant women with type 2 diabetes (55%) compared to women with type 1 diabetes (44%). Unfortunately the NPID also identified that women with type 2 diabetes, are less well prepared for pregnancy and are less likely to receive appropriate pre-conception care. Rates of serious outcomes for women with type 2 diabetes, including miscarriage, still birth, neonatal death or birth defects, have also increased in 2022.
