What we offer.
We offer a telephone helpline service for patients under the care of the Diabetes team at the University Hospitals of Leicester. It is available to offer you on-going support in the management of your diabetes and we will do our best to deal with any general queries/concerns that you have.
You may also have been advised to call us with your blood glucose results so that we can support you with treatment changes.
The service operates from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am and 3.30 pm.

How Does the Helpline Work?
Your call will be dealt with by a member of the administration team.
You will be asked for the following details:
Your Name
Your Telephone Number
Your Hospital /NHS number
Your Consultant’s Name / where seen
The reason for your call.
PLEASE ensure that you have these details to hand when you ring the helpline. It may be that you have to leave a message on the answer machine. Please speak slowly and clearly and leave us the information listed above.
The details of your call will be forwarded to the Diabetes Specialist Nurse manning the helpline for that day. PLEASE NOTE we are unable to guarantee that you will be able to speak to a named person. We aim to deal with the calls within 48 hours although generally we will call you back on the same day.
The Diabetes Specialist Nurse will call you back if they are unable to take the call when you ring. Please make every effort to be available to receive the call and note that all calls from the hospital show as ‘No Caller ID’ on your phone. If you are unable to take the call from us we will leave you a voicemail so that you know we have rung and we will request that you call us back.
PLEASE NOTE .This is not an emergency service. If you need an urgent response and we are not available to take the call we recommend that you contact your GP or 111.
