LDC researchers given Professor status from University of Leicester

A physical activity researcher and a consultant diabetologist have been made Professors by the University of Leicester for improving the lives of people living with diabetes.  

Professor Charlotte Edwardson and Professor David Webb have received the academic title after carrying out life-changing research within the field of diabetes.   

Alongside their roles at the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, both academics are members of the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Leicester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).

Professor Melanie Davies CBE, co-founder of Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) said:

“We are incredibly proud to see more of our staff be made Professors.  

“They have contributed significantly to our understanding of health conditions, and their ongoing research will undoubtedly improve patient outcomes long in the future.”  

Professor Edwardson has been an Associate Professor in Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour and Health at LDC since 2016.  

Her research focuses on understanding the role of physical activity and sedentary behaviour in the prevention and management of chronic diseases such as diabetes.  

Professor Webb is a Consultant Diabetologist at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Senior Lecturer in the College of Life Sciences at the University of Leicester.  

David is a senior clinician and principal investigator for a number of studies. He also is a leading figure at the University of Leicester in teaching and has led the Diabetes Masters programme.
