NEWS: Double win for Team LDC
We are very proud of MyDESMOND and EDEN, as they are recognised by industry experts at the recent Primary Care Diabetes Society (PCDS) virtual conference
The two-day virtual conference took place on the 5th and 6th November with the theme ‘Diabetes in a new world: Crisis, challenge and opportunity’ focusing on the evolving situation with COVID-19, as well as broader underlying changes in the world of diabetes.
The Leicester Diabetes Centre attended the show with speaker presentations and poster entries.
All of the digital posters presented were judged throughout the virtual conference by a group of leading diabetes experts. Hosted on the PCDS National posters page, they were accessible on the live stream of the conference, for all delegates to view and download.
MyDESMOND was awarded the winning poster within the poster category, with their poster, Evaluating a diabetes vital self-management programme (MyDESMOND) during COVID-19.
Alison Northern, Implementation Manager, DESMOND said:
“We are delighted to have been selected as the winning entry by the judges at PCDS. Our vision is to take healthcare self-management education to the next level and for MyDESMOND to be recognised as a vital resource for people during COVID-19 is a true testament to this vision.
“We have seen a five-fold increase in registered users since the UK went into lockdown back in March, and this is down to the hard work and dedication of MyDESMOND Providers and Diabetes Teams from across the UK ensuring that, despite being faced with a national pandemic, patients’ needs are still being met.”
EDEN won the Roger Gadsby Award (the best example of a diabetes primary care audit) for their poster, EDEN CARES: Care home education and safety.
Laura Willcocks, EDEN’s Lead for Healthcare Professional (HCP) Education and Training, said:
“Education for both healthcare professionals and patients has always been a passion and as lead for the EDEN team at LDC, myself and the team get to work in these areas on a daily basis.
“Being able to develop, deliver and evaluate high quality education that helps change and improve practice is integral to our ethos. We pride ourselves on working across key areas of need, and education in care homes was high on our agenda.
“Developing a face to face programme, with excellent feedback and early outcomes is something we are proud of, and is only the start of the journey. Rapidly switching to a fully digital offer which is currently being delivered nationwide is just another way we have demonstrated flexibility of approach.
“Submitting the poster for PCDS was one way to share the work we have done to date, and being awarded the Roger Gadsby Award for quality improvement, audit and making improvements that benefit patient care is just the icing on the cake.
“Keep watching – there’s lots more to come including a fast track programme, and an offer for community nurses.”
