Housed at the LDC, the LRWE Unit includes experts in epidemiology, prognostic modelling, decision modelling, evidence synthesis and systematic review.

The LRWE has access to large national datasets such as CPRD, HES data, the National Diabetes Audit and the Myocardial Infarction National Audit Project.

The main aims of the LRWE are to generate real-world evidence on a number of areas, including but not limited to:

  • The effectiveness and safety of different drugs in different patient groups, and the characteristics of patients benefiting from specific therapies

  • Phenotypes, trajectories, trends and outcomes for cardiometabolic conditions

  • Development and validation of prediction models for health outcomes

  • Costs and cost-effectiveness of different preventive and management interventions

The LRWE will combine the use of large administrative datasets with novel statistical and epidemiological methodologies. This will be further complemented by comparisons of real-world evidence results against randomised controlled trials, using evidence synthesis techniques, including network meta-analysis.
